The Theodore Coastal 720 is a big, roomy and dynamic trailerable sports fishing boat. After four years of intensive R & D, I fitted the latest marine diesel technology from Yanmar as the ideal match to the hull.

Yanmar's new 6BY sterndrive package delivers impressive acceleration, truly frugal fuel consumption and nimble operation- more like a petrol engine. The fully electronic management and display system is terrific with easy installation an added bonus.

Weighing 200 kgs less than many comparable diesel sterndrive models, the Yanmar 6BY provides a better centre of gravity for improved vessel performance, saves on towing weights, yet delivers big time on performance.

And the fuel use is about 1/3 less than a four stroke outboard.

The Yanmar 6BY punches all 2 tonne of the Theodore 720 to a top speed of 40 knots, but ideal cruise speed is 3000 rpm for 28 knots and fuel consumption of 22 litres per hour. In general boating, you can expect fuel use of 8 litres per hour over 100 hours of boating.
