"I insisted on Yanmar engines for my new boat"
"Operating a high-end charter business at idyllic Bora Bora can be a
tough business. Typically, my customers are celebrities and movie
stars who demand the absolute best fishing experience in their
limited leisure time. They want to fish for tuna, marlin and wahoo.
This means that we have to provide an exceptional boat powered by
engines that are the most reliable, the most efficient and the
quietest possible.
I selected a pair of Yanmar 6LY-STE engines to power my new Black
Watch 34, the first of four new game boats being introduced to the
Bora Bora Sport Fishing Charters fleet.
Within my fleet I already have a 50' Crowther designed cat powered
by Yanmar 4JH2-UTE engines. With 8,000 hours up on each engine, I
have never had a major breakdown. While I've worked professionally
with other brands of engines and been let down, (some of these the
biggest names in the business), I have found that Yanmar is perfect
for commercial and pleasure marine use.
Yanmar offers a fabulous power to weight ratio, quiet operation and
low fuel consumption figures. Also significant for me is the
absolute reliability and longevity of the engines. We are running up
100 hours per engine per week in a very remote part of the Pacific.
Fuel is expensive here, so Yanmar's legendary fuel efficiency is
vitally important.
The Black Watch 34 is possibly over powered with the 370hp Yanmar
6LYA-STP engines, but I like it that way. I don't have to work the
engines too hard, but when you want to get up and go, there's plenty
of grunt available. At full throttle the Yanmars deliver 34 knots
and will cruise effortless at 28 knots with the tachos hovering on
2700 rpm. I am very pleased with my new Yanmar engines and the Black
Watch 34.
When I ordered my Black Watch 34 I insisted that Yanmar marine
diesel engines be installed. Irrespective of the brand, you should
do the same too, when you order your next boat."
