Yanmar HA3 Series Marine Diesel Engine
(180 - 380hp)

"Born again with a Yanmar heart"
"Tura is a big, steel hulled boat that was built in 1985 and fitted
out for cray fishing. In 1999 I rebuilt Tura and converted her into
a comfortable charter boat designed specifically for fishing and
dive charters in the Coral Sea and Bass Strait.
During the transformation, the Gardiner diesel was replaced by a new
Yanmar 6HA-HTE3 diesel engine. Four seasons of charter work later, I
am still amazed at the difference between the old technology and the
latest in diesel power from Yanmar.
The Yanmar weighs less than half the weight of the old engine and
the fuel consumption has dropped from 30 litres per hour to only 22
litres per hour with the Yanmar. All of this has been delivered with
a slight increase in performance. In the engine room, there is no
vibration from the Yanmar 6HA-HTE3, there are no oil leaks and no
black smoke through the exhaust. And the Yanmar is physically much
smaller so it is easy to service.
Above all, the Yanmar is absolutely dependable. I take groups of 20
passengers at a time out to the Coral Sea and Bass Strait for seven
days at a time. Aside from the reputation of Tura Charters, for
safety alone I cannot afford to have any engine problems whatsoever.
The Yanmar has ably stood the test of time, and I am so pleased with
the performance that I have now fitted Yanmar generator sets in Tura
and my cray boat in Tasmania."
