Yanmar LAH3 Series Marine Diesel Engine
(620 - 700hp)

Bob Lamason
"Over 20,000 hours running and not
a rebuild in sight"
"When I bought my first Yanmar commercial engine, I would never
have thought I could run 35,000 hours before even thinking of a
rebuild. My Yanmar 6LAH engines keep running long after a
competitive diesel brand I owned failed long ago.
I've been in the fishing business over 28 years and operate the
Great Barrier Reef Tuna fishery. My fleet of 9 tuna long liners and
staff of 60 employees are responsible for catching a considerable
amount of the east coast tuna fishing catch.
The first Yanmar engine that I owned powered a generator set. My
first Yanmar marine engine was fitted in a New WestCoaster 72' boat
called Total and performed flawlessly. I specified another Yanmar
6LAH in my next boat and today I have five Yanmar engines in my
fleet.
Total has logged more than 20,000 trouble free hours in five years
and with each New WestCoaster that I add to my fleet, boats like
Connect, I demand that a Yanmar 6LAH is installed.
The 6LAH runs at 1500 rpm to deliver great fuel economy at 53 litres
per hour. This engine features two starter motors, side engine
access panels, individual cylinder heads, centrifugal oil spinner
and decompression levers. A service interval between 400 and 500
hours ensures plenty of time at sea working, not in port for
servicing.
My boats are at sea for five to ten days at a time and in this
period they log up 2000 nautical miles fishing. Our crew work hard
and can't accept anything but complete reliability for safety in the
workplace . we can't afford any downtime as it affects productivity.
I'm delighted with the Yanmar 6LAH and would definitely put a Yanmar
into my next boat."
